Aetna Questions

I have had more than one customer have issues with esigning and finishing their application. I was actually on the phone with one customer as she tried but it kept telling her that here name doesn't match and she tried several times. I wasn't aware but Aetna said they will let the broker esign for the client as long as you mention that you did so I had her email me permission then did it with no issues at all. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Also, I have a prospect that went online and signed up for an Aetna plan a few days ago and I'm looking at writing an app on his wife. He signed up for the crappy preventative HSA and I'm going to show him the better HSA plan that covers everything. If he decides to change plans could he cancel that application and write a new one with me?

One last question Have you guys noticed that w Aetna when you run a husband and wife together that you get higher premiums than when running two seperate quotes. It doesn't make sense. I actually had it on a Mother daughter too. The daughter is 18 and 19 is the cutoff for dependents in my state so I ran a quote with seperate policies and it came out like $25 cheaper.

Aetna has the absolute WORST online app. I always fill in for my clients all the way through.

There may be a waiting period before hubby can sign up with Aetna with a new agent. Seems like it is 6 months, but could be wrong.

Aetna rates (at least in GA) rate on the oldest spouse. If hubby is 45 & wife is 43 both are rated as age 45. Also the rates for family assume 2 kids. If you only have one child better to write a child only plan. If they have 6 kids then right the family plan.

Only problem with splitting everyone up is they can end up with a lot more OOP if all have big claims during the year.

DIDO.....They are by far the worst.....on a side not I had a humana issue in 12 hr's that aetna had denied.....hummmmmmmmm

Unfortunately in KS Aetna has been the best scenario for the customer almost every time for me so far. I agree about their online app; it was a pain in the butt to learn but I've gotten more comfortable with it.

Humana has some good rates for certain ages here but most of the time Aetna has been the best. Golden rule has been competetive from time to time but they will rider anything this side of a sneeze and the rates have been comparable with Aetna but Aetna won't rider. I had a lady diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 18 years ago and hasn't taken any medications for at least 10 years which Humana would have been a good fit but they will decline just based on the diagnosis. Aetna was standard.

Trust me, I would LOVE to place some apps elsewhere but...

Here's one I love.

If it is "cheaper" (due to potential rate-ups) to do so, Aetna will extend the "courtesy" of writing the husband on a separate policy from the spouse & kids.

Oh, by the way, you morons -- this is an HSA-qualified FAMILY deductible plan -- or it WAS -- until you converted it to a family deductible PLUS an individual deductible and totally screwed up the whole plan.

Well, that's only halfway accurate. Since Aetna has a true imbedded deductible, what they have done in this situation is to effectively increase the family deductible under the "family" plan in an amount equal to dad's deductible. That is, if dad meets his deductible, it does not count toward the family deductible now -- so 2 more people have to meet theirs under the "family" plan.

Of course, you can always contact the friendly folks at customer service and request that they remove dad from his own plan and put him back on the family plan at the higher rate.

Sometimes I wonder about those guys, I tell ya what.

And I have yet to have ONE policy issue with NO rating at all ...

Yeah, I don't understand why they can't just rate that one individual and keep them all on the same policy. It just doesn't make sense and it hurts the client.

I have had a few, not many, but apparently 1 is more than you.

Either they haven't figured out how to do that, or . . . they did figure it out and think the agent isn't smart enough to catch on.

Which is probably the case most of the time. . . .
