AFLAC Interview

I went for my AFLAC interview yesterday. Still waiting for my life/health license to come. Think I will pass on this as well. Two big red flags:

1. You can't use your own laptop to enroll and write policies I guess? They have a "machine" you can purchase for 1500! The Sales Manager is cool and all but he got kinda cagey when I asked about this.

2. The small business market would seem to be a real pain in the butt to penetrate and get to a decision maker. Maybe I am wrong here but no thanks.

This being said, I am using this time to explore and learn. The numbers for commissions were decent but a bit general. Lincoln Heritage has been the only company so far to be straight and real (at least on surface) about their figures. Thanks for all the valuable feedback and please throw me more. I have an interview with State Farm next.

I think you may find this industry is not for you. You don't start many places (any?) with a paycheck as an agent. Depending on the company and type of insurance it may take weeks to get paid. I've been in this about 24 years and my AVERAGE commission payment occurs roughly 10 weeks "after" I submit an app. Granted my market is older and an APS is the norm. This is "after" finding them, talking to them and convincing them to go with me as their agent. That process could take anywhere from a week to 4 years.

So your first comments concern me. This is a business that can pay well, but rarely fast. If you need fast cash, chances are you won't find it here.

That's about as honest as I can make it. Good Luck.

I understand this is a 1099 and you earn what you produce. I just felt the REQUIRED training window was too long for that kind of deal. Thanks for the feedback.

If you need a pay check now talk to Western Southern, AGLA and Metlife. Those companies pay a salary for the first 13 weeks or so.

the Mechanic, couple things..

1) You CAN use your own laptop to write business...this "machine" you speak of is basically an overpriced hard drive with all apps, forms etc you can plug into your laptop. You wont have to spend $1500 on it tho...in fact, you can pick up a used one for "cheap". OR you spend nothing and write everything on paper.

I'm thinking number 2 will be your bigger problem...but, you knew that before the interview. Good luck with LH or whoever.
