AHIP Certification - Final Exam Testing

Hi All,

New here to the forum, introducing myself....

I live in New Jersey, NJ Licensed Producer (Life/Accident-Health/Property/Auto) since 2016. I am pretty good at helping customers, not real hard sell, just like helping people which puts me in hot water many times when I don't make a sale!

Recently decided to get into the Senior market with Medicare plans, hooked up with Ritter which is one of the 2 authorized FMO's in NJ.

I registered with AHIP to get my certification, went through the training, did very well on the module tests (all 100% except one was a 90%) and even reviewed the course material before I took the Certification test the 1st time, during which I felt very good about how I did.

To my surprise I got 68%....WOW was I dismayed!

I studied the materials again, took the test a 2nd time and got 70%......AGAIN WOW!

I feel very comfortable that I know the materials, but what is hard to understand is why I am getting such a low test score, especially when the test does not provide at least a summary of the categories and what you did (percentage) in each so you can focus on the lower percentage areas. When I took my NJ State License test (through PSI) I failed one and at least they (PSI) provided a summary of the categories and what percentages of the questions on the test and how you did.

BTW, this is the 2020 test, not the 2019 test.

Any comments, suggestions on how to proceed? Need to pass this next test!

You need to take their practice tests about 10 times! Honestly, this is how many are passing this year. It's tough this year.

By the way, we are an FMO and we do business in NJ and have agents there, so not sure what you mean by "authorized FMOs". I really don't think there is such a thing.

I had wondered what he meant by that as well

I once had a prospect call after doing app with me because he met with a local agent that told him since I was out of state I was not an authorized Il agent and was selling insurance illegally and they she should cancel her policy right away

So the tests are hard, that I expect.

I have to guarantee that I pass it next time.

The 1st appointment with a company I want to be with Clover and Clover only deals with 2 FMO's in NJ.

Bruce,

See post #10 on this thread: https://insurance-forums.com/community/threads/ahip-2020-here-is-what-i-had-to-do.99624/

I've never done this, so I can't verify it would work, but maybe worth the trouble since you really want a passing grade by your third attempt!

Maybe someone else can comment if they've done the same.

Thanks Craig. Your response to the point is very much appreciated. (BTW, on your team!)

Read that post by Banker Bill, looks like it might work, asked him to verify that is the way the AHIP website works. I really don't need to start the 3rd attempt and try this to only fond out that the next time (4th attempt) will not let me start it!

Please don't take this as anything else but the honest truth-if you are getting scores that low on the certification exam you don't know the material and cramming test answers isn't going to jump the score 20 points (10 questions more) on the one final try you have for this year. I've taken this exam annually since 2012 and while it's tougher this year than last year it's probably no more than a 6 point difference than in 2019.

Most insurance companies only allow the 3 tries before they lock you out for the year so signing up again after this next attempt isn't going to get you much except practice for next year.

If UHC/AARP is an option in your area go take their certification, it's much easier and you have 6 tries and will be able to have at least one product to offer during AEP.

I hear you and thank you for the your honest truth, I can only try more and since I seem to get 100% on the AHIP Module tests and I feel very comfortable with the reviews, what I do see is subject matter in the Certification test questions that is not in the training. I have all 5 modules to review during the open book and numerous aspects are just not there.

It's really difficult to start out 'cold' on Medicare and have the same proficiency as an agent who has been doing this for a number of years and has experienced many of the questions when dealing with clients. Most of us who have passed the test for multiple years can do so pretty easily-this year was a little more difficult because the wording of the questions was more complex.

You are starting from scratch and your timing is really bad for passing AHIP at this late date. Rather than push forward to almost certain failure, why not put it aside, come back when you have some time, and start the whole process over including reading each module carefully without thinking about correct answers and just thinking about learning how Medicare works?

I have posted this before, and I dont understand why it's not an obvious solution to everyone else. Just download the slides. have them available during the test. Use "control+F" to search the slide materials, sometimes searching a string of words or a single word. Occasionally, you wont find the answers to a question in the slides, and in that situation, talk to your friend google.
