Do not work with AHU out of TX.

They are an IMO for World insurance and a few other carriers. Their products are rip offs but more importantly, they steal your money.

There is NO vesting in your renewals.

If you do not write at least 1 case per year and your renewals drop below $100 per month, they STEAL your renewals.

Early this year the f***cked up a case with $1500 commission so badly the client fired me while I was trying to get is straightened out. I fired them and changed my contract to a local IMO but have only found a reason to place a few cases with World. I have almost no need for World any more, but it does piss me off with the way they treat agents.

I see no reason to deal with World as long as they use IMO's, especially those who like to steal your renewals.
 
Ouch! I like World and write them pretty often. I happen to like my IMO for them (out of Ft. Worth - PM me if you want contact info). Sorry you had such a shitty experience with them...bastards!

I too have become disappointed in AHU and World. I keep my appointment with them only for "special" cases when underwriting may be better (about 1 time per year). World is a little more lenient in CO than some of the others - but if there is any way to place a client in either Aetna or Humana, I will always go that route for now.

I have received some unpleasant calls from existing World clients about billing. World seems to nickle and dime them to death. Things seemed to change with World after they merged with American Republic.

EX: Doc orders an ultra sound for a female because there is a lump on her breast (may be a simple cist or could be something serious). World claims that if nothing is discovered by the ultra sound, it is considered preventive, not covered because there is a 12 mth wait for preventive benefits. That means no network discount and the bill is not applicable toward deductible.

If something is discovered, then it would be considered diagnostic and would be covered subject to deductible. I think if a doc orders testing, it should be considered diagnostic - regardless if something is discovered or not.

They get real hung up on the preventive vs diagnostic scenarios. I have also witnessed one case where the client was balanced billed by a network doc office after the co-pay and World payment. World didn't give a damn - said that the doc should not be doing that but refused to intervene. Client had to pay the bill, fire the doc and switch to Aetna.

It's a matter of numerous small thing like that, that made me lose confidence in their plans. I do not have any of those issues with Humana or Aetna.

Last year, World was hard to beat. This year, they take a distant 3rd place - with Anthem. Anthem is still pricing itself above the pack (except for Assurant) and offering fewer benefits. Word on the street is that in Jan '08 they will take another rate hike between 19 & 22% for existing clients.

I also have some issues with AHU - in CO, it is the way they require an SBA Accident Plan to be written with the policy in order to receive an advance. The agent does not receive a single penny for writing the Accident Plan. AHU can go pound sand over that one. If I write a policy for them, I'll take "as earned" and also write a VBA Accident Plan that I will get paid for.
 
Don Scarborough was a national director for AHU. His contract was abruptly terminated in May of this year because . . . he produced and recruited for other carriers as well.

Malcolm Miller was a regional recruiter for AHU.

He had downline agents removed and placed under another agent because . . . he was not personally producing AND he was recruiting for other carriers.

There is NO VESTING in their contract.

The app fee, monthly admin fee and association fee goes directly to AHU pockets. All of these fees are NON-COMMISSIONABLE to the agent.

Is this the kind of IMO you want to work with?

If you are contracted with AHU and still want to write business with World, BEWARE!

My suggestion is to start moving business away from AHU as quickly as possible before they come up with a way to keep your commissions.
 
I just went to AHU in Fort Worth yesterday and submitted a contract for appointment. World at 22% and BCBS at 17%. Advanced 5 months on app submittal and the other 7% on app approval. The Agent that convinced me to go over there is running it up like its the best thing going right now. They give free leads as well if you are producing. I guess we will see. Should I get out now before its to late?
 
I was selling States General with them back in the day and one of my clients had a claim and States denied .....well after the case was settled States and AHU split the claim......then AHU turns around and debts me for the portion they had to pay.....about $12,000.....
