Best Way to Get Customer

to get you their actual checking account# when all they have is a debit card#? Have a current case where I wrote the application with Americo since the customer chews tobacco to keep him from having a smokers rate. He doesn't know his checking account number that the debit card is based on and doesn't receive monthly statements in the mail. Probably gets them sent electronically to keep the bank from charging fees but doesn't have email/internet access so doesn't really receive the statements to get the number from there. Seems pretty simple for him to just call the bank or go by, but it's just one more step of time/effort, and questions as to why the cable company and others are able to take the debit card but not the insurance company. Just wondered if any of you had any helps or hints to motivate the customer to get this done. I've called and spoken with the girlfriend/wife a couple of times since writing the application two days ago. I haven't sent in the application since I'm waiting for this information first.
 
Simple, give him a choice.

A company that will take your debit card is going to rate you as a smoker and costs X.

Americo will treat you as non-tobacco, but can only do a bank account and costs Y.

Which do you want? If Americo, get me your bank account number or I'm going to put you with company X.

You don't have to be a jerk, but you need to tell it to him like it is. Right now, you are letting him run the show and he is doing a piss poor job of it because he doesn't know how. You're the professional, act like it.

If he is not willing to do that then he is not serious. That's why it is a luxury to have a lot of people to see, so that you can weed through the BSers.
