Computer and other equipment questions

Increase your computer volume to 100% and then decrease the volume manually on the headset. Sometimes that will fix the issue.

Alternatively, assuming it's not a wired headset, you can reset it and sometimes that help.

Otherwise, this may be back to a spotty internet connection (which you detailed previously). If your desktop is hardwired, you should look into a new modem. If not, then start with a new router before getting a new modem.

Routers become obsolete a lot faster than modems.

Thank You

I had a friend that finally came over and checked things out

Seems there are a lot of possibilities

1 he installed some special router from where he works that wanted for latency and other interruptions he will watch that for a week

2nd he uninstalled all the other virus protection like norton he said it compeates with my actuall protection and causes issues deleated a bunch of programs not used and did a lot of diagnostics

I am only going to work with a wired headset to see if there is a difrence for few days

I am still going to keep the new computer coming as when he was doing some test there was a blue screen at one point, and he said I probably don't need to change but I figured I would do it now before the world ends as some are saying in case there is a deeper issue

However he does feel since I am hard wired in there may be an issue with outside cable and interruptions in internet flow

this router should uncover if this is the case

On old windows NT computers if I had sound problems, I could stop using the sound chip in the motherboard and add a separate sound card. That helped me with sound problems on 1 or 2 computers.

When I log into my AT&T internet account, they have software that tests upload and download speeds across the line just to their modem and then a separate test that tests upload and download speeds from my computer. My computer consistently falls below rated speeds on upload (because I am using a 6 year old low end Best Buy hand me down computer ).

You might check if you internet provider has testing software like that which might give you a further clue about where the problem lies.

If you are running Windows, open the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and see what programs are running and which are slowing you down. Is your OS Windows 11?

The only antivirus I use is Malwarebytes . . . used it for years.

If Windows add/remove doesn't get the job done for you, consider installing Revo

FWIW, Windows Defender will work for most users unless your doing some really interesting things...

Most average Windows users don't even need an anti-virus.

I second using Windows Defender. One of the largest life insurers in the nation actually prohibits their Career Agents and Employees from using anything but Windows Defender. The tech team says that the mass marketed 3rd party apps do more harm than good.

In all fairness, there was a time when Windows security sucked and a 3rd party anti-virus was a must have. Times have changed.

A few weeks ago MWB found a PUP as part of the daily scan. No idea where it came from, so I quarantined it. Next day it was back. Kept showing up several days in a row.

The MWB scan said the PUP was residing in memory. I finally figured out that my Chrome browser was reinfecting my computers. Changing a browser setting for a few days "cured" my problem.

Yes I believe the other anitvirus programs that I did not put on my computer but came though other downloads was a huge issue these have been removed
and the load speed has significantly improved

and does not slow down as the day progresses as it had been so early tests look good

Be careful with downloads, especially from trusted sources like Adobe. Many times you will be given an option to install "X" along with the program.

Just say no . . .

This requires you to pay attention when downloading anything, including Windows updates. The more stuff you don't need but have on your computer the more chances you have to install a memory hog.

And be extra careful with software that SEEMS to be antivirus, offer to scan and clean your computer, etc. I never install free stuff on my computers. Greater chance of catching something you don't want.
