I've been running and running my clients prescriptions for 2012. Coventry seems to be the plan for 2012 on about 80-90% of the cases I'm running....regardless if their taking all generics or namebrands and generics.

Just curious if other agents are finding this as well. I'm in Michigan, I ran my mother and father in laws prescriptions on Medicare's website, their main residence is TX. So I ran them for their TX residence, again, First Health saves them the most.

It looks like Coventry is the plan for 2012, in most cases. Are you guys finding this also?

Often... and the puzzling part of the Part D biz is... one would logically think that if you had a heavy Rx user... a Part D plan with a higher prem and gap coverage would be the ticket... Not so, apparently. Often times the First Health Part D plan is not only cheaper in monthly prem by a good margin, it is way cheaper on the cost of the drugs too. Insanity I call it...

Can you imagine the folks in the room the day that they decided to create Medicare Part D. Lets try to guess how that coverstation started out... Duh.

If someone tells me they use CVS, usually Aetna CVS works. If they tell me they use Walmart, usually Humana Walmart works.
All others? First Health Value.

Yep, I'm seeing a lot of that, too.

Obviously, the Humana-Walmart plan is the cheapest if they have no drugs. I have seen a couple situations where Aetna comes out better, too.

The AARP/UHC plans were pretty good for 2011 but are not looking so hot for 2012. I have yet to see an AARP plan come in at the top of the list for 2012, and many times they're not even on the first page.

Just keep in mind that the preferred pharmacies for the First Health Value plan are Walgreen's, Walmart, Sam's and Target. If you're running the comparisons and not choosing a pharmacy, the Medicare site defaults to a preferred network pharmacy.

With that said, I am finding the First Health plan to be consistently at the top when using a preferred network pharmacy.

Walmart and CVS have a $320 deductible. First Health/Coventry has a $0 deductible. Granted, I've seen the CVS plan come up if their on all generics because the generics aren't subject to the $320 deductible. Most people don't want that $320 deductible on their prescriptions

My issue with the Aetna plan is if someone needs a brand name later in the year, adding the $320 is the same as increasing the premium to over $50. The Walmart plan goes to $43ish.

So I pretty much just recommend First Health. I don't bother with the referral fee.

I think First Health is going to have 70-80% market share of the prescription drug plans for 2012.

How much does the government pay insurance companies per individual for a Part D enrollment?

I don't know what the figure is today, but back in the early days (2005-2006), somewhere in that time period, I was at a Blue Cross meeting and was told they received $105 per month for Part D enrollments.

We're slingin the FHPDValuePlus like crazy here. Getting paid a bit for your efforts is nice too. Nice to not have any paperwork or do anything other than highlight the phone number and your name/agent number for $28. Makes part D assistance worth the effort, spreads good will, generates referrals, etc.
