All those people had zero interest in Funeral/ cremation planning or life insurance last week. But this week, it’s kind of on their mind. Multiply all those people by 20 per day (in my little town) and that’s a lot of newly interested people for us to find through our marketing every week.

Do you passively wait for them to notice your marketing or do you comb through obits and actively try to contact those people? Just curious.

Historically captives have had a good claims reputation, however it isn't what it use to be. Most have gotten much worse about handling claims, while the preferred independents seem to be doing a better job. Here the captives are just coasting on their previous rep.

Google “ten worst insurance companies”. All the captives are on any list you find. Then again, they also have the most market share.

Not surprising. As you say, they have the most market share. Their probably are worse companies, but their market share is a blip so they only stand out if you look at complaint ratios with the state.
