I stated about a week ago that W. Clement Stone made the statement "people buy from those they like". I have always been a firm believer in that statement and I always spend about 15 to 20 minutes of warm up time getting to know people before jumping in to why I am there, to sell insurance.
One of the things I do that often helps is I carry a yoyo with me in my briefcase at all times. I am an expert with the yoyo and have played with them since I was in the 4th grade. I am now 56. I can put on a pretty impressive yoyo demonstration that kids and adults all appreciate very much. Often times I will pull it out in the bar and people buy me drinks to do tricks for them.
When I have unruley children that won't leave their parents alone so I can bury them, I will pull it out and agree to do some tricks for them if after I am done they will let mommy and daddy do their business. Beleive me it works. I do 5 or ten tricks and they are all mine.
I also find that adults in the 45 to 85 range like yoyos as well because it brings back memories for them of when they were a kid.
It's just another way to get them to warm up a little and to like you. If you have little weird bizare kind of talents dont be afraid to show them off.
