Getting started

Where do you find peeps to sell face to face to?
Behind a door.

JD is correct when he mentions direct marketing leads being the cats meow. As an old "cold door" knocker, I can tell you there are people who aren't thinking of buying until you bring that thought to the frontal lobe of their thinking, that that starts with a simple conversation.

some people knock doors. just walk down the street. I know this does not sound great, but it does happen. others purchase leads. if you are currently making 100K.... walking the streets and or buying leads, probably does not sound great right now. referrals are great as well. I like your idea of keeping your day job and doing this on the side. Do you realize the turnover in this business? It is fantastical. Why? because people don't want to knock doors or get on the phone. watch the movie glenngary glen ross. You know the scene where alec baldwin is talking about firing everyone and coffee is for closers? this is why people leave.

Besides the work, most people aren't cut out to be their own boss.

$100,000 working 4 days with benefits--health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave and a retirement plan? You are considering leaving this for an insurance career as an independent agent? Good luck!

The truth is few few agents NET $100k after lead costs , chargebacks , taxes which includes 15.3% fica , health ins , gas , car repairs etc . That said if you a top 1/2% agent you can NET $300-$800 k a yr on your own pen . But if you want something bad enough nobody can stop you . Personally id recommend very few people quit a $100 k job with all kinds of Bennie's off the bat . I'd work 10-12 hr days on your days off selling . If your very successful for 6 months go for it . You have to love what you do to be successful . If you've done well go for it

An agent writing $100K a year in FE is in the top 2% of FE agents.

I'll agree with that . I was listening to Peter Roberts a while back . He said he did $550 k vol his first yr and only NETTED $185 k
I didn't say made $100K. I said written. The percentage is higher if you count one year wonders. I've seen many have one good year only to disappear.

But the oddest one I ever saw was back in my termite days. I was the first agent in our group to have a $10K week. So then the others wanted to beat that because the upline played it like a competition. One guy did beat it about a month later. Then disappeared. No one ever heard from the guy again. Never came to another meeting. Never got on another call. I asked the upline about him. They claimed to not know what happened to him either. I never ran into his business out in the field either. He only lived about 75 miles from me. So apparently he didn't go to another IMO either.
