Going independent

Hi this is my first post on the forum, my situation is that I have been captive for about 3 years at a p&c company that does a little life, health and commercial. Basically my company has been making alot of changes for the worse (which is another discussion in itself) which has greatly effected my book of business as well as the long term outlook on my career in general (at least with this particular corporation). Basically I am looking at going independant in the health insurance area and am looking for any advice regarding the current market with the way the economy has been lately, is it worth venturing into the health insurance market or is it a lost cause? In general are people able to pay for individual health ins. right now? I consider myself to be an above average salesperson (especially on the phone) and I like the idea of getting out of P&C all together, health insurance seems like it would be right up my alley plus I have a passion for it, is now a good time to make this leap or should I head back to corporate america?

Re: Going independant???

One thing you should always remember about the insurance biz is that it is essentially reccession proof.

When things are great people want to protect their assets just like when things are bad. When the economy is good people want lower rates when its bad they still want lower rates.

Banking, Real Estate and Insurance are the top 3 industries as far as income potential. The first two are tanking horribably right now but not insurance.

I think the individual market is fine. If anything, I am able to help more people, as everyone is trying to save a few bucks. It is easy to tell someone that you will shop all the major carriers for them, and in most cases save them hundreds or thousands a year in health costs.

M 2 cents.
