Got Offered a Job at Allstate, Commission Only. HELP!

I second this.

Someone needs to have some skin in the game besides YOU. I would at bare minimum require a $1500 per month for 6 months base to get going.

I agree with houcoogster. Any sales job including insurance has a ramp up time where the rep needs some financial support while building your book of business. If they are unwilling to pay some sort of temporary stipend I'd lok elsewhere.

This is excellent advice. It's very true and furthermore, let's touch on the fact that the op seems to be a bit clueless about the business so his managing director (or whatever fancy name the boss has) is definitely going to succeed at making him feel like it's all his fault that he didn't make any money because he didn't have enough activity.

OP, I really, really, urge you to stay away from this. Those places hire anyone who will fog a mirror. These firms are little more than a multilevel company. They hire anyone who will fog a mirror so he can sell to his friends and family then burn out and quit. And even if he has no natural market (like you) it's still pretty damn profitable to have unpaid telemarketers work for you for a few months until they burn through their savings and quit.

I went through the Allstate process a few years ago, to open a scratch office. With HO not being offered in this area, the numbers were not there. Seemed that if everything fell in place, I would make about $60k first year, as the owner of the agency. I had my P&C license and my own building, but they wanted me to rent out a more visible location and buy all their franchise furnishings to create an ideal office. Without being able to offer Home Owners, I couldn't even justify relocating to road frontage as the owner, let alone relocating to another city.

Where do the leads come from? Do you generate them? How many calls a day will you be making.

Looks like the offer is an avg 15% That's not bad, as long as you have the leads or "scrubbed" phone #'s to call.

If your avg prem is $450 per item & you sell a 2 car & a home a day 5 or 6 days a week you should make over 4k a month.
