How Does a Captive Agent Company Know

I am looking into working for a company that uses captive agents.

How does this company know if I sell for other companies as well. (I will be selling in NC, SC)

I think in FL, you need a license for each company, but not in NC, SC.

I am not looking to violate any rules or laws, I just want to know how things work.

I think that you may not have good information. NC does show who you are appointed with. I went to this page and then clicked on the individuals name and it shows companies appointed with.

You must be appointed with each company you sell for. Most states list the companies you are appointed for on their website. So, all the captive has to do is go the DOI website and check your license. Your odds of getting caught are extremely high.

If you agree to be a captive agent and you want to end that agreement just end it. Why sneak around?

It is so easy these days to look up any agents lic in any state to see which all companies they are appointed with.

I just left a captive company, and I can tell you they check the DOI website in most states just about every month for each agent. Same as the other guys said. It's not even random with most offices. The administrators check every agent, every month.

I agree with Newbie, if you want to be captive for some of the perks (training, office to work from, leads, administrators to do paperwork) then be captive. If you want to be independent, be independent.

I failed to post the link. Here it is an as far as I can tell every appointment with a company appears in your record and is public record.

Licensee List Report T Smith &NPN=6585231&agentId=37526

How do I find that for Indiana? I'm not even sure myself if I am actively appointed with a few companies.

Washington state now allows appointment with the first app. which is a pretty good way to go hassle wise. You get paid a little slower on that first policy, but not that much slower.
