How Long Does It Take to Get Appointed?

Hi all,

I'm new here and have recently gotten my A&H license in CA.

Quick question, how long does it usually take to get appointed by the carriers? Are there any gotchas?

I'm trying to come up with a realistic time frame of when I could start selling health insurance.

Depends on the carrier. I just got appointed with a new carrier, it took 4 days. Some carriers take 4 weeks. Average is about 10 days.

Given the uncertainty surrounding health insurance and agents in the near future, why would you do this? Just askin'.

With a lot of carriers, you can send in your appointment paperwork with the first piece of business you write.

For A&H, I wouldn't sweat the carrier appointments so much. They can do it in a day or 2, or drag their feet. If it goes in with business, it will happen quickly.

In CA, there will be an exchange, and they are including agents and the carriers are paying them. Depending on commission rates, it could be a boondoggle

Thanks for the responses guys. That's pretty helpful. Is it common for carriers require you to place your first business prior to appointment?
