HUMANA - Your Preferred Method of Application Submission?

My appreciation to everyone for the feedback/advice regarding your preferred method for obtaining and submitting health applications to Humana.

Here's an Update:

I chose to enter the application for this Husband/Wife online in the Agent's section of the Humana website. It went smoothly until near the end. The site kept telling me that a medical question box hadn't been checkmarked. After about 20 minutes and a phone call to Humana support, I was able to find the box and check it. (Humana's online health question formatting needs some work. Questions jump down, and indent themselves like they're hiding from you!)

Applicant had some trouble doing the online "e-signing" of whatever it was that Humana e-mailed her to approve, but after I related my experience, she went back CAREFULLY looked over the (?) and found whatever it was she overlooked the first time.

Husband was turned down immediately after the phone interview because he hadn't been to the doctor for a cholesterol check-up in 2 years, even though the doctor does renew the prescription every 6 months.

Wife will have the doctor's office fax her medical records to Humana after her May 21st physical and test results are known.

Attempted to set up my second Humana appointment this week with a Heating and Air Conditioning company owner and his wife. (Ages 45/40) But after speaking with him a bit before the appointment, he divulged that he was 5'11" and 295lbs. I was stunned to see in the Humana Underwriting Guide that the company declines any 5'11" male over 260 pounds... No rating. Just straight-out decline. So, I switched gears and presented the more expensive IHC Health Solutions HSA to this couple. (IHC - 5'11" Male 280 to 308lbs = 70% rate-up) Because they're now paying $1,190 a month to BlueCross (group plan at wife's employer), he had no problem with the $785 IHC monthly premium. Wife is resistant due to the $15 BCBS Rx copay for her Paxil (anxiety) & Cholesterol medication, but hopefully hubby will prevail.

Humana Underwriting manual also says that mental issues (anxiety, depression, etc.) are usually ridered or rated. IHC doesn't rate/rider the "common" mental issues.

One thing I'm learning with my diversification into the "BIG NAME" companies of Humana & Blue Cross is that their premiums are lower because they are geared to accept and fully cover only the healthiest of people in this country. They also pay the lowest commissions, which also keeps the premium lower. All-in-all, this is turning out to be a valuable learning experience. Thanks again to everyone who gave me helpful input and tips!

Humana has some of the best standard rates for height/weight, but if you are overweight their decline maximum is lower than other companies. The e-sign process is kind of a pain in the ass....if they do a phone application they can request the documents be sent by regular mail for signature instead of by e-mail. I've had the same problems with question formatting before and people not knowing how to get past it. Phone app is easiest.

Do the app through the Agent workbench by phone and desktop share, then 3 way them into Humana to do a telephone signature, it takes 5 minutes and they are done when you get off the phone-the Esignature process is awful, I've lost several sales because clients never finished it.
