ICEP vs IEP

I feel kind of dumb asking this - what is the difference? In the case of a Part B Reinstatement into a new plan year is the ICEP a valid enrollment period for CMS?

Remember there are no dumb questions, just dumb people!

IEP - Part A and B start on the same date

ICEP - Delayed or re-enrollment into Part B good for 60 days after Part B effective date.

Yes ICEP is a valid enrollment period

IEP and ICEP are basically the same thing. They are for people newly eligible for Medicare. IEP is generally used for OM and ICEP is used for MA. And you only get one.

As for part B reinstatement, they'll have to pay their back due premiums and reinstate or in most cases just reapply.

To reapply, complete form 40b before March 31st. They'll get a new part B effective date for April 1st. They can then apply. If MAPD, you can use ICEP even though it's technically not. Just be sure to check new to B.

If applying for a supplement the new part B date will override everything else.

thanks - in this case the member paid the part b premiums due, and was issued a new card with a Part B date of 2/1/2025. The MAPD plan year expired 12/31, and the plan is not accepting this as either a IEP or ICEP. They are looking for a SEP which there is none.

So who is the carrier? Because that's where the problem is. They're not picking up on the new part B date. And you do not need an SEP.

Did you check new to part B on your application? That's your SEP and all you need.
