I know I can just click it and close out then it will not show up until a new post. Is there a way for it not to show up?

I've never heard of anyone wanting to block a thread before. Normally if you tug on them they'll come right out if they're loose. If not just take a lighter and burn it off. 
But seriously, folks.....you can't block a thread, only forums. If it's possible I would think it would have to already be a feature of vBulletin and for that Sam would have to implement it. I don't think Val would want to take on something like this that seems to me like it would be a heavy duty programing task, even if it would be possible.

I have so many a-holes blocked there's hardly a thread I can read.

There's no setting to block a specific thread from New posts, but you can exclude forum(s) from showing up in New Posts. Under Options page, you can select the forums.
