Is there a reason why a lot of carriers won't sell policies there? Seems like they are kind of abrasive.

One reason could be lawsuit mania.. Years ago, my favorite Major Med company not only pulled out of Alabama but got out of the Major Med business supposedly because of a lawsuit in AL.. Our major med plainly excluded maternity coverage. Lady had a baby, filed a claim and we didn't pay. End of story? Nope.. She sued.. Was awarded 3 Million in damages (how many deliveries would that have paid for in the 80s?).. Company appealed but the award was upheld by the AL supreme Court.
