Looking for Guardian Contract...

How do you find your DI prospects? I have always believed in DI and I know it is profitable if you know what you are doing. The problem is, it seems unless you work the med or law schools, it is hard to find good DI prospects.

Working your current client base and asking for referrals is the best way if you aren't going to get working relationships with hospitals/medical centers/etc. Of course if you are working the FE market that's not going to work, but I work with a lot of self-employed business owners and upper-middle class income families so it's a good fit for many of them. Most have never even though about DI until I brought it up. Find local associations for occupations that would have an interest in DI and get in contact with them to see if they will recommend you to their members. Our website gets a DI request once in a while too, which is nice because people looking for DI online have usually already done a ton of research and have a good idea of what they should be buying.

Knowing the benefits and underwriting inside and out is key because it is such a complex product. When you know the weaknesses of other companies' policies or group/association policies, it is much easier to convince someone why they should be buying the best contract they can get (i.e. Guardian's for white-collar professionals). The best fit for everyone can vary by health/age/occupation/etc, but I always start with Guardian and go from there. Principal, Standard, Mass Mutual, and MetLife have good policies too.

There's a lot to be said about making your way into associations or hospitals to talk about DI. I work with the younger professional crowd and lots of times I hear "Yeah, I already bought DI."

To which I aways say, "Damn it!"

I should pump up the information and discussion about DI on the insurance pro blog, but I also know that Dgoldenz' Guardian GA has the corner on the market when it comes to DI discussions on the Internet.

Next question: "Do you know what's actually covered under your DI?"

Usual answer: "Not really, I got it through my employer"

Actually I run into a lot of people who already bought DI from Guardian. The one thing I've determined is that the DI people who have really made in roads to find quality prospects and sell a lot of DI tend to be kind of bad at the life part of this business.

...title pretty much says it all. I've got one already and I have some business with Guardian. The problem is that I think Guardian is great, not so sure about my upline (who shall remain nameless). Pretty much AWOL while I'm writing apps and I have to ask other agents how to submit them, etc. Doesn't really make sense to me...but hey, whatever.

I'm an experienced agent (since 2004) so don't lowball me. I don't need much, but some level of support would be nice.

So, dazzle me...I'm entertaining offers.

You ready for the release of clockwork Angels??

Ha, you betcha! I think SnA was a pretty decent album, it hasn't aged well for me. The instrumentals kick ass, but overall the album is plodding and too down-tempo. Hopefully CA kicks more ass in the way that Vapor Trails did (but with better sound quality!). :D
