Non Licensed Assistant

I am trying to determine the limits in which a non licensed assistant can follow up on returning calls from life and health insurance leads. Can they do any quoting or filling out application- if not can they take name, address, age, sex, marital status, how much and type of insurance desired?

Hello LV,

You can NOT do any quoting or even filling out an application, well, I would never risk it. I am pretty sure you can take the basic information that you described, "name, address, age, sex, marital status, how much and type of insurance desired?"

Your best best, is to check with the State of Nevada regarding what you can and can not do as a licensed agent. I am in Florida, and know of a few call rooms that have fronters which collect the basic information you listed at the end of your post.

If your assistant is quoting and completing applications... why are they only your assistant? In fact, if they're doing all the work... why are you entitled to get paid on the business that your assistant would be doing?

Maybe he pays the assistant a weekly paycheck. Just a thought.

I would just get the assistant licensed. Then they can help you any way you need.

Ditto, this is what P&C GA's have been doing for years, only they call them CSR's not assistants.

Old thread I know, but I would also like to know what the limits are for an unlicensed assistant. I buy internet leads and they sometimes come in when I am either out of the office or on the phone. I'd love for my assistant to be able to start trying to make contact with the lead ASAP in those situations and it would be nice if she could do more than say "Hi, Rich can 't talk to you right now, but we wanted to be the first one to call you!"

Before I got my license, I was only allowed to take payments and record the information needed for a quote. I wasn't allowed to complete applications, make changes, give advice, etc for any customer as it is against the law in my state.

So it sounds like "get the assistant" licensed is the simplest solution and the best way to avoid that "grey area" of licensed/unlicensed activities...

I suggest you call your state's OIC and simply ask them. It may vary from state to state. But yes, if you want them to quote for you, license them.
