Has anyone come across a service that can provide a list of prospects based on their WC carrier? For example, instead of (or in addition to) pulling a list based on governing class code, pull a list of businesses currently insured with ABC insurance Co...or the State Fund, etc. thanks.

How do you get started selling buisnesses and what are the best products. I am new and just grabbing a phone book as I have been told has not produced or helped me. I really think I won't get much help here and I need advise.

What state are you in? Most have a rating bureau that provides basic info on businesses WC info- business name/address, mod and mod renewal date, which almost always coincides with the WC policy effective date- which usually coincides with the rest of the policies (prop/GL, auto, etc)...
Having xdates makes your calling a lot more efficient in my opinion. Sure you're calling when every other agent is calling them, but not many people care to switch mid term, unless they're seriously fed up with their current agent.
I searched like crazy for a good supplier of xdates for myself here in PA. We've got the PCRB, which is good for xdates and mods but then you have to search out phone #'s, build your own database, kinda inefficient. I tried data lister, who claimed to provide all this info (contact, Xdate, mod info, current carrier), but when I spoke to a rep they said they don't have xdates for our state, only contact info, pretty lame..and they were really expensive.
I finally found this site called insurancexdate.com that's the real deal. They're only available in PA and NJ, which works for me. So if you're not in either of these states it won't be much help to you. But they supply business info, phone #'s, class codes, rates, mod and WC history. Everything I was looking for at least.
Good luck and try to find a mentor for some guidance.
