PCIP Declination Letter

Gee, did you really expect the govt to tell you in advance the rules changed?

Talked to a woman a few weeks ago that had been on PCIP and now on Medicare. She said it was a nightmare. Three different govt agencies including the Agriculture dept.

Really?

A former client took the PCIP after going uninsured 6 months just to get it. Before and during those 6 months, he hounded me with how bad the underwritten health insurance system is, and how we need something like PCIP to replace it. Now he is apologizing. He said PCIP is a nightmare. Here is a quote from one of his recent emails:
The PCIP is a true pain to deal with. They question everything. For example, "What was the reason for my appointment with my oncologist?" Not for elective surgery, wouldn't you think? Still, I don't want to fall through another gap in the law.
I feel for him. I like the idea of PCIP, but the government must run it correctly. When an insurance company acts like this PR is hard to repair and sales suffer. When the government acts like, (and intends to replace private health insurance too), it is frightening.

The government isn't running PCIP. The federal version is run by one (or more) TPA's.

Kind of like Medicare. They don't "run" it either. Claims administered by carriers on contract and TPA's, except PCIP is worse from what I hear.

Glad I never signed up for the comp. Bad enough that deal lasted 3 weeks or so. Would hate to think I got $100 to listen to bitch sessions from "clients".

Only thing worse would be Medicaid clients.

I just Googled "PCIP complaints" thinking I would see several listings.

Almost nothing.

You would think I was looking for bad stuff on Mega.

well its all my pregnant leads have to choose from..and my site is getting hammered with pregs..been sending pregos to them on a daily basis....and when the baby is born we move them to a individual plan....then talk about the new need for life insurance...so I got the PCIP Pregnancy Niche Market down to a science....

Good for you.

I trust they have more money, and a greater sense of personal responsibility, after the baby is born.

How can PCIP be denying claims? It covers pre-ex. If anything, they need to be questioning the providers if they think it's fraud due to diagnostic coding.

From what I hear the problems are more than claims problems. People mention that they send in the premium but receive a lapse notice anyway, and when they try to appeal they get nowhere. When they wish to reinstate or reapply, they are told that they must go 6 months without insurance again.

I have heard similar stories. It's a shame, because this is one piece of the otherwise POS law that I applauded.
