Program for Brand Name Synthroid

Nobody screws with the Synthroid. Nobody. I will take the generic or order it from Canada when I live in my car (which is also the same time my mother will be on a MAPD)

The mail order place works and so does Eagle Pharmacy.

I just gave it to the client she called me back said Doctor was giving her a hard time with the prescription gave her the 3rd degree where did you get it blah blah saying there is a lot of scams with Synthroid specifically

However this could just be hysteria, I have had a heart doctor like that everything is scientific by the book has to be specific

Every Drug she wanted to have me on for bearly borderline results would have been a much larger fight if it were not for my PCP who backs me up,(actually would have found another doc but she is closer so)

I feel like some docs are just control freaks and want to feel if it didn't come from a licensed doctor its got to be some stone age conspiracy nonsense

This is good to know

Will tell client I have no concerns she can take or leave it

I hear you. For every other med but this one.

So here's the deal. Synthroid/Levothyroxine is the ONLY brand/generic that is approved by the FDA and NOT both A and B equivalent.

For people with co-morbities (diabetes) who are taking it because everyone on diabetes should be on it, its usually no big deal. If they are a 50+ woman and the T3 or TSH is a little screwy and they are bitching about their weight, the doc will put them on it and see if it helps. These people can take levo and it really doesn't matter.

If you are celiac, you most likely need the drug and they only want brand, because its a crapshoot if the generics are gluten free.

If you have Hashimoto's (thyroid autoimmune disease) you don't screw around with your meds, becasue it probably took 3-5 years to get the damn diagnosis, much less your numbers straightened out.

When I was pharmacy tech at Eckerds in High School and College, then I worked at a PBM for almost 10 years. This is the ONLY drug pharmacists would not take a generic sub for themselves. But its an age thing. Docs and Pharmacists over age 45-ish want brand name only (see above). Under age 45, they think generic is fine.

My doc (who I dearly love) takes levo for herself and laughs at me because I want brand name. Then I remind her the $40/month hits my $3K OOP, which I hit in April/May every year, so what do I care???
