Questions You Get from Prospects...

The best one I've ever gotten (and have probably posted four times now) was "Ah crap, I forgot about my tuberculosis."

I had one very early in my career that really threw me for a loop. A lady and I were talking very casually about maternity coverage. She asked about waiting periods, and I explained how Golden Rule's worked - half benefit for the first twelve months, full benefit thereafter. She flipped the hell out. Sobbed uncontrollably for twenty straight minutes and I couldn't make out a single word. Then she choked out "I've GOT TO GO," hung up, and we never spoke again.

I had a person who wanted individual DI try to convince me that MS wasn't a big deal.

Another agent I know was referred to a guy specifically for DI who had AIDS.

Suprisingly, I've always had good luck with life insurance in that I've not run into too many crazy people when it comes to it. One of my very first cases was a guy who was obviously creeping into standard territory for the build charts. Then it turns out he had high cholesterol and sleep apnea; I got him standard rates. A year later his wife wanted to go through underwriting again to see if he could get preferred rates because he lost 10 of so pounds; I was like, "ummmm, weight wasn't the only issue here, how is his cholesterol and sleep apnea." She responded with, "his sleep apnea isn't bad."

Prospect for disability insurance, you'll find some real crazy people there. I'm sure its similar for health insurance.

I had someone yesterday that couldn't understand why they couldn't change their health insurance to an individual policy with MS. They were taking Copaxone, which is about $3000 per kit. They complained about how expensive the group health insurance they had was, which was about $700/month for two people. The co-pay for the drug was only $60. Alrighty then....

I had one who claimed she was healthy, no health problems or history thereof. I quoted her preferred. App came back declined because of history of multiple myeloma.

Uhh... I called her and her reply was, "oh yeah, I had that but I'm fine now, I didn't think it was a problem!"

Oh, of course not. Why would an incurable bone cancer be a problem?

Along a slightly different vein, I talked to a woman recently who I was going to be able to save $86 per month for on her Med Supp plan. (She lives in a very small trailer.) She has BC&BS. Yes, she still has it.

It should have been a "slam dunk". When I got ready to write the app she said she has had BC&BS since she was 18 years old and would never consider leaving them because if she did, she would lose all the money she had paid them since then.

I told her the was 100% correct and to hold on to that policy for ever.
