SalesGenie vs. Go Leads HELP...

Hi All,

Great forum! Long time lurker here.

Issue:
Just did a free count request on both of these sites and the counts weren't even close. All I'm looking for is a "call list" of 1,000 specific names/numbers. Because the list is small, I want to buy correctly....meaning I don't want the list of 1,024 that SalesGenie generated if they're all bogus - GoLeads came up with only 17 with the same parameters. As a test, I did a large search of all homowners over 65 years old in PA. There was a 400,000 count discrepancy.

Question:
For those familiar with these two sites, is it possible that the counts are closer [i.e. more legit] once you're in the system?

I'm open to any other QUALITY list providers that provide similar filters but these two seem to be the top players. Price is not the issue - my time and an accurate list is. For instance. I don't want to make 1,024 dials when only 500 are good numbers and only 250 are homeowners and...etc.

Appreciate any input.

Regards,
V.

I'm assuming you are looking for personal lines stuff (i.e., homeowners prospects?).

I'm not sure how goleads comes into play here, they don't do personal lines stuff, just businesses (as far as I know) which is probably why your counts are way off.

Age isn't really part of the public record, though it can frequently be had, so there will always be descrepancies here.

From my experience:
- GoLeads - pretty much worth what you pay for them, but this is the bottom of the lead source. Nothing wrong with it, it's fairly inexpensive.
- Sales Genie - More breadth of lead type, lots of missing information, but decent. Actually, a bit expensive, though they have come down in price.
- Dun & Bradstreet (zapdata) - Excellent source of commercial leads, a bit pricey for the average person.
- Haines - Excellent source of Homeowners info, though it has limits on how it can be used. Designed for those of use who write homeowners policies or market to homeowners. Not available in all areas.

Many others out there, all depends what you are looking for and whether you want one time leads or ongoing lead pulls.

Despite what a lot of companies claim, very few companies do anything but buy and resell this data. The closer you get to the source of the real data, the better it will be, but sometimes the more expensive it is.

Face it, homeowners information all starts with the county clerks office, and then phone numbers / ages / types of cars / lifestyle / wealth codes / etc are appended from other sources. After a few of these, not much is right anymore.

Thanks for the replies.

Moonlight: That was my original thought but there are more votes for Goleads on this site - that's why I posted.

Dan: Very good point. If I'm going to take the time to call...might as well take the extra step and go to the source.

Most of the mailing houses use SalesGenie, so that should tell you something. I use the SalesGenie site before starting a new seminar mailing just to get an idea of what my returns should be before I actually agree to a new mailing.

Data compiling and filtering is a very specialized industry. Make sure you work with compilers or owners of the main databases that are compiled but these agencies. There are many good sources that you can get very specific things. The problem I have seen in the past with many of my clients is that they have all used online sources. These sources are all dumped into one universal filtering system to make their lives easier. That doesn't necessarily mean that is the right filtering when you put it on there. tis all basic and most of these sources is modeled data.

If you work with a list owner, you will get the opportunity to deal with a sales rep that can help you with your selects to make sure you are doing it correctly.

Here is one example from the mortgage industry.....

If you are looking to target for reverse mortgages the cut off is 62 yrs of age. if you go to one of thee online sources and pull your own selects you may pull 62+ HOWEVER that isn't the best way to do it. People that call me get assistance in understanding that a higher percentage of people will actually be widowed at 65 not 62. I would explain to them that if they go 65+ they will convert 50% more deals then if they go 62+.

The point is that if you deal with a list owner you will get advice and what ways to filter your data from someone that does this all day long. You can always give your filters to us and if there is anything we can do to make that better we will let you know. You decide what you want, we just go and get it for you!

The other main difference between an online source like sales genie is that they do not update their main data bank as often, usually going every 3 months. A consumer/business list owner/broker like me has to keep it fresher than that to make sure we keep our clients happy. Its all on a per name per order basis, no month to month contracts or broken promises of unlimited pulls like some of the online guys.

My advice find a your self a good list owner/broker with humans helping you on every list. I can personally help you filter all your lists as well as DNC scrub it and suppress any current list you already have so your not getting the same names again.

If you are looking to mail we do that for you as well. My goal is to get you the right mail and the right list at the right price. Some mail houses use sales genie or some other online source. This could alter your response if your mail rep doesn't understand filtering. Keep in mind most of these sources do not offer half the selects that they could because they do not want to A) confuse people and B) limit the list any more than they have to.

I have been an owner of the National Consumer and business fields for over 5 years. If anyone has any specific data filtering questions please fire away.

If you use SalesGenie for leads, are the leads already filtered to eliminate homeowners on no-call lists?

Excuse my slip, do they filter by no call list. Perhaps that isn't the exact perfect way to ask but I think you can figure it out.

Sure Jeanie, that's fine. I wanted to make sure you weren't under the mistaken impression that they were going to provide leads to you.

I don't believe their residential lists are scrubbed against DNC, but I wouldn't take that to the bank...

Of course for businesses, there is no DNC.
