Selling BOB in TN

Ok, so I'm looking to move to Florida and I have a BOB of about 350 or so clients in middle TN(a few in GA AND AL). Mostly mapd, some pdp and supps, ancillary (gtl and unl) and ACA.

I own the BOB but I get paid from 2 different FMOs and directly (I'm now direct paid from the companies). I pay for a CRM system.

I'm considering selling my BOB for several reasons. I get that there are people here who think it would he be a stupid thing to do, so no point in coming on here to ask me why I'm considering something stupid. I've got my reasons to be thinking about this.

I'm exploring my options and want to know what to expect, if anyone is interested in discussing it, and if it's even possible.

Has anyone sold or bought a BOB that can chat?

I think in today's environment, the MAPD/PDP portion may not bring the amount it once would. Just too many unknowns at this point. Hell, my PDP portion was worth $20k more annually in 2024 than it is in 2025. While I don't think we are going to lose commissions on MAPD, I wouldn't bet my career on it. Nor would I pay someone a whole lot for their MAPD BOB because those renewals could change drastically in the years to come.

I don't know if you are wanting to get out of the business or just get a chunk of change and start over in the business in Florida. But dealing with your current client base over the phone and via email is very doable. If you aren't wanting to completely get out of the business, it might be worth more to get licensed in Florida, get a non-res in TN and continue servicing your TN clients. If commissions hold, it will be a nice revenue stream for you while building your Florida book.

Even if you do want to get out of the business, getting licensed and getting the renewals while the book dries up might be worth it as well.

Just a thought.

I am planning on continuing to do Medicare sales in Florida. If I decide not to sell the BOB, I'd be working the business over the phone and I do have the ability to come to TN during aep and work business with people I need to see in person.

But if I sell the BOB, I can pay off all debts and live off the rest while I build my BOB in Florida and it would simplify my life. I'm not desperate to sell the BOB , but it's an option I'm considering. I just don't have any idea how it works, which is why I'm asking about it.

I understand. I was just giving other ideas for consideration. For what it's worth, I rarely meet with anyone in person. And I never meet with anyone in person during AEP.

I just feel the environment for selling a MAPD/PDP BOB doesn't currently favor the seller. There may be someone out there willing to take the risk.

You may want to ask your FMO's if they know of anyone willing to purchase your book.

Hi. I'm in Middle Tennessee and might be interested in buying the MAPD and Med supp portion of your book. DM me and we can discuss. Thanks.

I'm well versed on this talking with many people and reading tons of notes from people who have sold . On your mapd business you're probably looking at around 1.5 to 2 x total renewals . Again Thats depends on the age of clients, what % is dual, how were the clients acquired, how long have they been clients? The med sup that depends on the avg age of the plans . If there mostly in their 3 rd or more but maybe 1 to 1.25 times . With what's going on in aca I'm hearing 6 months max x commissions . Your gtl and Uhl is worth very little as your talking 8-10% commissions . In today's environment most people will want to pay you out over 2-3 yrs with the risk involved . Most will she a clause that says if commissions terminate on mapd or are changed then the rest of the payout will change . Honestly as sman said I'd just service them on the phone and let the book die out . People are still buying books but I'd surely be buying none with all he upcoming risk to commissions , Commission suppressions and termed areas and plans .

The other part. Don't come to Florida we are full already! But in all seriousness it's super saturated and ultra competitive here. Hope you know what you are doing.

Would your FMO be interested/able to buy it?

I live in the panhandle of FL and there are around 500 T65 each month. I would say 40% are military retirees and 20% are civil servants. That means at least 50 agents-local and telemarketers-are bombarding those who shop. I am lucky to sell 5 and that is usually due to a referral or they know me. DM don't work and they won't answer their phone so I door knock. Tough market.
