Several Health Insurer Merger Talks Are In Progress.

AC, how do you and Yagents find the time to locate and read all this stuff? Do you ever sleep?

As for the merger speculation as it relates to the Justice Dept (antitrust), consider this.

If the carriers WANT to get out of a line of business (and most of them do, at least the IFP portion), isn't it better to approve a merger/sale vs just letting them go away?

Carrier compression is happening and will continue regardless of whether DOJ approves the mergers or not.

LOL Somarco, I was sleep when you posted the above message early this morning! We could say the same thing about you, since you're one of the most insightful, seasoned, and knowledgeable agents in this country. Was it magic? No. You read and have experienced many facets of the business.

Once again Somarco, you've pointed out something that most of the media and many agents have overlooked, because it happens so gradually. Carrier compression isn't just via mergers and acquisitions. It's also occurring because companies have left the market. Carriers will do what's in their best financial interest, regardless of the DOJ. The DOJ approves the merger, or they bail.

Come to think of it, Obama, Sanders and many others would LOVE to see them all get out of IFP... and probably group too. There's probably a secret Medicare for All group working behind the scenes right now at HHS..getting ready for the next "big phukin deal".

July 21, 2015 - Anthem/Cigna merger update.

"Currently, the discussions between Anthem and Cigna are considered to be in the final stages. However, it is believed that lack of consensus on leadership and governance-related issues are currently delaying the deal."

And that pesky entity known as the BCBS Association.....

You're saying that BCBS Association is throwing a monkey wrench into the Anthem-Cigna deal? Does the BCBS Association own Anthem? Will have to look that one up! I have no idea what the relationship is.

All BCBS's are part of the mothership. Anthem is a BCBS. They are not allowed to market or sell outside their areas. What happens in IL or TX? We have Cigna and BCBS. Its a major issue and the one the Cigna CEO used to walk away from the table a few months ago.

And consider if they have to shed (sell) parts of the biz in certain states to comply:

"We believe the biggest obstacle to a potential Aetna-Humana transaction could be in Florida, Georgia, Illinois and Kansas where the combined company will have a significant share of the individual, small group and Medicare Advantage markets."

— Christine Arnold, securities analyst for Cowen and Company, said in a July 6 note.
