Something I Dont Understand About Lack Of Prospecting

Is people in this business that doesnt like cold calling! Huh! How can you be successful in this business without being an effective prospector. Nothing wrong with the lead companies, but after you have been in the business awhile shouldnt your customers be referring people to you? Shouldnt you have a pretty good book size to work off of? Shouldnt you be known well enough in your community that people know what you do, and seek out your services? I just dont understand sales people that are constantly fussing about bad leads, and how much they hate to cold call. What are your thoughts?

I have cold called in the past and was pretty good at it even though I hated it. Switched from interruption marketing to attraction marketing and never looked back.

If things get slow I will buy aged leads and set up a drip marketing campaign.

I don't care if you cold call, sell over the phone, door knock, buy leads, buy leads for $11 or for $100, buy pre set appointments, or whatever..... any time or money you put into prospecting should return at least 6 to 1 (preferably 8-1) or try something else.

I don't think that it makes you a bad salesman if you don't cold call. For example, I sell FE. In my area I can sit on the phone all day long and get maybe 1 or 2 appointments. Or I can pay $400 to get 20-25 lead cards that I can schedule 15-20 appointments from. Am I a bad or lazy salesman because I bought leads? If so, let me be the worst salesman out there. At least I won't have skinny kids.

I don't think successful salespeople complain much about bad leads. That is for losers. If a successful agent tries leads from a source that didn't work for him he finds a different source.

In p&c if I got 8-1 on all my marketing I'd be retired by now. If you get 1-1 that is considered successful with renewals as you make back your $ year one and the rest is profit until the policy cancels.

If you want to learn attraction marketing, start with Seth Godin. Absorb as much as you can from his sites, then pick a couple of his books on Amazon.

They are all good but a bit repetitious.

In p&c if I got 8-1 on all my marketing I'd be retired by now.

When I was buying health leads if I didn't get 3:1 the lead source was fired. I usually averaged 6:1 - 8:1 on leads from my primary sources.

That was FYC, not counting renewals.

Earn $6 in comp for every $1 spent on leads (6:1 ROI).

I to have had to cold call in the past and its not always nice and you dont always get the response that you want, however you will sometimes come across some really nice people, so dont be worried about doing it just make sure you have thick skin :)
 
I dont cold call, if you have good products at good rates, then referrals come easily, especially if you connect with the client.
 
Attraction Marketing is the use of marketing techniques specifically designed to teach the customer what you are doing and how a service or product will benefit them well before they purchase it. Reverse Marketing is the same concept of Attraction Marketing.
