Start Cold Calling...HELP?

dude you are full of it.

Frankly Josh, I'm not here to get into a pissing contest with you over this. I have neither the time nor the inclination to go back through my own records for the last two years to find the information just to prove a point. In regards to where the information is from, discussions and correspondence with the state attorney general's office, and federal officials with both the fcc and ftc.

I realize you sell lists for a living, and have to be seen as an expert by those you sell to. I on the other hand, have only been in the insurance business and cold calling for 22 years and have no idea what I'm talking about.

Thanks for your prompt response. Also aged leads how reliable are those? Like i said i am a new indy broker. I really appreciate all the advice i can get.

Kim

My experience with aged leads is that you need to have a full portfolio (term, ul, wl, simplified issue/fully underwritten) and be willing to write at least statewide, if not in at least a few other states. The quality I've seen has been hit and miss. Some batches are great, others are full of folks that say "I was just trying to get an iPod" or things along those lines. There's business to be written there for sure, but you need to be prepared to handle a variety of situations vs a handful.

As far as real-time leads go, the best I've seen has been with Hometown Quotes. The volume is low, but the quality is there.

Cold calling... getting started what a challenge!

Josh sent you an email.

Again thank you all for your quick responses

Hi so i decided I want to start cold calling but need advice where to start. Is it best to buy cold call list $250 for 3,000 contacts? What have you guys used? I just made the transition direct writer to broker I have multiple appointments with the best premiums. Can compete with most as far as price and quality. P&C insurance. Any tips how to start cold calling? In California by the way.

Thanks Kim

I'll give you 1,000 records and I will do all the calling and setting appointments for you as well as the scheduling on the commercial lines for 1520.00 that's cheaper than 1 in house caller.

Cold Calling is a earn skill. Takes lots of practice to get good at it. Most give up before they master it. Very few of us like doing it. It can work, but most of us dont want to invest that much time doing it and take that kind of abuse.

Your service may be effective and great, but from your posts, you're selling way too hard. When all you do is throw up all over people, they become suspicious. Try adding some value. You might just attract some people...

Thanks for the advice Josh,

I will do my best to give good input and work my way up to adding a signature.

That's a great plan.

Not to play "pile on mike", but saying you'll give them 1,000 records is like saying "Spend $15k on this car and will give you $500 cash back". That offer in the offers section is rubbing some folks the wrong way too. If they have to pay to get 1,000 leads, then they're not really free. Just my two cents.

I can see your point just that business sucks right now and I am trying anything to get some new clients, I believe there is no such thing as neg. feedback so I will chalk this up to a learning exp. I just have to put my faith in god and wait. Thanks for your honest opinion Josh you have paid your dues and I respect that,I hope all is well.

I really appreciate your advice I have built some solid relationships on this forum and I would not want to hurt that. I will take your advice as positive and move on from there. Thank you for your time.
