Tablet Suggestion

will the chrome book run Windows programs?

Nope

Microsoft Office because that's my email.

How to install and run Microsoft Office on a Chromebook

FWIW I keep a Windows 10 computer so I can use financial software that is not cloud based and file Georgia corporate returns plus pay taxes.

Other than these situations I am Chrome all the way . . . browser and OS.

To me, both MS and IOS are a pain to deal with, especially with updates. IOS is not as clunky as W10 but not as streamlined as Chrome OS plus the add-ons for word processing, spreadsheet, etc.

I have a W10 desktop and laptop. 98% of my work (and play) is on a Chromebook. During AEP it is not unusual to wear down the battery on 2 or 3 during the day.

I have a 15 inch, (2) 13 inch and (2) 11 inch Chromebooks. When the 11 inch books reach the end of their useful life I might replace one of them but not with another 11 inch laptop.

No longer have need of heavy duty spreadsheets, database or word processing. The Google "family" of office software fills my needs.

Chromebooks are much faster than a typical Win OS or IOS computer and they don't shut down to do an update while you are in the middle of work.

I have had Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo and Samsung Chromebooks. Acer is a decent low end book. I give a nod to Asus, HP and Lenovo.

Bob-I'm leaving towards a Samsung S that has great reviews and get it through T Mobile. Mainly because I don't use public wifi and want the phone service. What are you doing when you leave the house (I realize you are home based like me, but vacations, etc)?

Use hotel WiFi in my room. For secure transaction, I tether to my Samsung/Verizon phone. Mostly use the phone for email while traveling but use the laptop for sending proposals.

I have enough data to tether without going over but tethering burns through the battery. If tethering for a long period of time the phone is plugged into the charger.

We haven't traveled in over a year so it hasn't been an issue. Rachel retired last year so no more "free" convention trips.

I am still working so Rachel is free to travel with our daughter. Get's her out of the house so I can work and she gets a break from me . . .

Got my first Samsung Cbook a few weeks ago. Some of the models eat battery time. This one (not a flex) is suitable for my needs and I have fallen in love with it in short order.

Lenovo is good too. I had an all-in-one several years ago and was quite pleased. More recently picked up a Lenovo Cbook that has been my go-to 14 inch for the last couple of years.

Anyone considering a Cbook should check the AUE list to see how long before that model will no longer have security updates.

I think I read that Windows will stop doing security updates on W10 in a few years. Haven't paid much attention to those notices but I am sure I will get a dozen warnings before it happens.
