Yep. This thread was an AdvisorToday article (NAIFA publication) that actually advocated for new agents to go lease a Mercedes and invest in a better address so you can network with more 'affluent' clientele.

best I ever saw was having an interview at the General Agents house. GA said tongue in cheek with a response to a comment about how awesome his house & property were "if you work really, really hard and put in the time & grow your sales to MDRT levels, all this beautiful property could be mine someday". he was giving the impression that hard work & great sales could also provide agents the opportunity to live like that, but his words were tongue in cheek to actually say if all sales reps worked really hard he could receive enough overrides on their sales that someday he could pay off his property.
