Ok, so I have not sold much H1 business in the past......only a handful of cases (most of my business goes to BCBSTX)....anyhow, the cases I have done have been difficult, long processing times, long times to get paid etc etc..........

So today I submit 2 apps.

First one is at 8.30am.........signed by client etc.......by 8.37am I get an email saying the app is approved as applied for and issued?? Huh?? Well it was a clean app.......but still?????

Next one is at 3.05pm........client has high cholesterol and high blood pressure.......surely they will request medical docs and put this guy through the ringer????

Nope. By 3.11pm, application had been approved as applied for and issued.......

Whats going on here? What happened to the 3-6 weeks in underwriting?

What is everyone else's recent response with H1 been like???

they have had the fastest underwriting for years....and the phone in app rocks....

I had a relatively fast underwriting experience with a client last month..took her two days to call back for the telephone interview, but the policy was approved within 3 hours of interview completion. Based on the interview she had a $40.00 per month rate-up for HT/WT and an exclusion rider for arthritis. They mailed her the exclusion forms, which she signed and faxed back.

I'm used to more interactive underwriter-to-agent communications, but I'm learning that the really BIG companies don't operate like that. This shortens underwriting time, but leaves the agent out of loop. But, if a company does not have flexible underwriting, there's probably little need for the agent to be informed of virtually anything between app submission and final approval/rejection.

Did anyone here get the latest survey sent out by HumanaOne to get agent feedback on the areas we like and don't like about the company? After 15 minutes of answering questions, the progress bar indicated that I was only 4% done! I closed the browser and am now getting an e-mail reminder each day to go back and pick up where I left off.

90% of my Humana apps are approved within 1 hour. Been like that for a couple years. Phone app allows instant verbal underwriting after application info is completed. Problem I have is when the client has to electronically sign the documents, pain in da butt.

Most of my H1 apps are approved in hours. Rarely do they ask for medical records anymore, and if they do, their service obtains them and pays for them. Occassionally someone will call the client back to ask a few more details. The phone app can be a long process for the client, but I've liked it. I've worked with H1 for years and most of my apps have been approved within 48 hours.

Yea, the e-sign thing seems to have an issue or two, but overall the process works pretty well.

And I don't write that much health these days, but for the clients that I do health, H1 seems to be king of the heap at the moment.

Ive had apps approved like that, however, they're also doing massive amounts of post issue underwriting, and I had a couple month long fight with them trying to rescend a policy over a lady taking a B12 supplement over 10 5 years ago that she forgot about, after a knee replacement they preapproved.

They approve quick, but they'll take any chance to cancel the coverage after the fact if anything is omitted. Be damned careful to document your phone calls, notes, etc. They wanted me to produce any notes from phone conversations, tried to get the client to say I talked her into leaving off things from the app, had a 60+ year old woman nearly have a nervous breakdown over a 20+ thousand dollar bill.

I had to get the doi involved along with a senators office before they decided it was a good idea to stop, and the DOI said they'd had over twice as many similar cases in the last year in just TN than all other carriers combined.

You are absolutely right. They do a ton of "post" underwriting. I have 2 clients right now trying to prove no pre-ex condition. It's almost like the movie Rainmaker, deny the first claim on submission. No other companies do this to my clients

A men. I just had a client recinded after the app was submitted and approved (less than 1 day) back in May. They now claim some things were omitted and recinded the policy (he must have filed a claim, I can't get ahold of the client) I like the fast approvals but the post underwriting makes me wonder.

Humana attempted to throw me under the bus on it also. They tried to claim I was attempting fraud to get the policy approved to both the DOI and the Senators office, and they claimed to the Senators office after the fact that the reason they took so long to drop the threat of rescending the policy was because I refused to give them information, which was completely untrue.

I sent them everything with exception of medical details discussed, but all financial, if questions were asked, etc, and told them I could send the rest with a HIPPA release but since I was not a employee and they did not have a HIPPA release, which the client offered to fill out, I was not exposing myself to legal liability in the case it went to court.

I had copies of all correspondance with Humana and sent the DOI the copies, and the DOI told me clearly that no contract with Humana, unless I was a direct employee, allowed me to violate HIPPA, and at the same time Humana was threatening to terminate my contract if I did not commit a HIPPA violation in the eyes of DOI.

I asked them for a HIPPA release, the client volunteered to fill it out, and they said they wouldn't ask for one because they didn't need it.
