It can be medically necessary. Medicare does cover it now if deemed so.
This changed in 2014.

To be fair, we're talking of a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the population.
(And honestly I don't know)
I would have to believe that for it to meet the "medically necessary" standard that the patient and their medical team would have
Less than 1% of the population is suffering from Gender Dysphoria
Top surgery is 8-25% of that, bottom 4-13%
1-8% of that want/or have reversal surgery.
The requirements of getting medically necessary surgery are:
1) Over 21
2) Diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria
3) Sufficient medical documentation (usually psych and specialist treatment is needed)
4) 1+ letters for a qualified practitioner.
I think that Transgenderism is overblown, honestly. I also think that because people blow it up for a really small section of the population, in so.instances people say they are for attention.
Most of these people will never get/be approved for Medically necessary treatment.
I read an article that there's a such thing as Trans Trans. It's a person that feels they are stuck in the body of a person that is stuck in the body of a person that is of the same gender as they already are...
Frankly, that shit is jumping the shark.
I'm hoping that was a joke, because otherwise I can't wrap my head around it. All I can do is understand that they're a person and they're going through shit like all of us.

I think discourse improves when you have a Steelman frame of mind.
This is going to fall flat.
The LBGTQ community wants docs who “get it”. They buy this plan, that’s going to be the expectation. The docs are going to look them and say “I have no clue” just like they do now.
And none of them buy MAPD because Biktarvy via infusion is a heck of lot cheaper on G then MAPD-if they can get the infusion approved.
Plus, if they are using the Ryan White centers, I’m not sure they take MAPD.
