Am I a Jerk for This?

So I have decided any business that I go to who does not let me
at least compete for their life insurance business then I will not support their business.

For example I know two business owners in my area who own
video stores. One guy wouldn't let me compare his life policy to
what I could offer him so I found a new video store and wrote a
policy on him.

Oh and here's the kicker

Then I told the other guy that I go to his
competitor now.

For extra laughs

The 1st guy is with primerica on his policy and I was a
customer for over 7 years.

I think someone who would go back and rub it in the merchant's face is a loser and not a professional.

You aren't being a jerk but I do believe the saying "cutting off the nose to spite the face" comes to mind. You should continue to use the services of those who already support you, the rest will come.

You need to offer value not use force. I could see using your method when purchasing something that could be returned though. You are at the counter to make a really big purchase.........."what is your return policy?......so this item is returnable?.........hummmm........BTW I'm a life insurance specialist. Who handles your life insurance?"

All kidding aside, I think there are better ways to earn people's business.

I'm the opposite... I work on niches where I don't have to see my clients on a daily basis. I don't like having to talk business when I am off the clock and I certainly don't want to go to my favorite restaurant after giving the guy a 20% rate increase for his workers comp or group health. I see them at business events, lunches, etc but I like to go about my business. If one of my day to day stops needs insurance help I give them to one of the agents that work for me so I am not in the middle.

I'm with you. I do not want to run into my clients when I am off the clock. Also if I have to gripe about a product or service I prefer to not do it to a client. I will write them, I just do not prospect them or require that they do business with me.

hmm. No you are not a jerk for taking your business elsewhere. Going back to let him know is petty. Don't stoop to that level.
For real, you actually have a "video store"???? We don't have any anymore. Where on Earth are you where there still is such a thing?

Ya, thats being a jerk.

So what happens if you dont write your friends? Do You do away with them?

It took me 6 years to write my mom, should I have written her off since she wasnt supporting me?
