Anyone write for Gainsco in Georgia?

I have a customer who recently switched to our company from Gainsco. When Gainsco received her request to cancel her policy it appears they cancelled her automatic payments then cancelled her policy. This appears to have caused her to lose her discount for automatic payments which inturn caused her policy premium to go up. They have informed her that not only will she not be receiving a refund of the unearned premium on her policy but that she now also owes them money since they removed the discount. Is this normal? Should they have not just processed the policy cancellation? I have reached out to Gainsco with her here giving them permission to talk to me but they advised that this is a agent issue even though the cancellation request was sent to their home office not the agent.
She may need to file a complaint with the DOI, it definitely sounds like less than ethical behavior.
