Are All the Big Mutuals Captive?

Their Universal products all seem soooooo good (and gotta love those dividends!); but, can independent reps sell them? :err:
Which ones let you; which ones don't?
Are the co.'s that do allow independent contractors worth anybody's time?

I am an indy and have Guardian, Minnesota Life and a few others. I was also offered Northwestern Mutual and NY Life as well.

You can be a broker with MassMutual or Guardian... which makes a nice 'exit strategy' if you decided to be a career agent first.

To be a broker, you need to broker through a local general agent.

There may be products you won't be able to sell as a broker that are reserved only for their career agents, so keep that in mind.

You'll get better comp with other carriers... such as Ohio National.
