Frankly, let's not limit this to carrier reps - the vast majority of the brokers I know aren't very sharp either, but they tend to know a lot of people, which is why they're in business.

Well, there might be some truth to this.

In the employee benefits side most brokers I go up against seem to have their act together. Now when it comes to customer that is where they might be really lazy. Then on the other side you have brokers giving information overload so they look smarter. Which I think is a bunch of smoke and mirrors.
