Direct Mail Questions

I've seen very few agents be able to do their own mailings and get a good response back, but don't let that stop you!

I would like to hear from some agents that were successful at it.

You can do everything yourself and bypass the mail house, if that makes sense for your particular situation.

It's a very simple process

How long to stuff 1000 envelopes with reply card?

Would it be easiser to have the reply card as post card?

Do you instruct people to call instead of mailing back a response card

I would think it would be more expensive to do a mailer yourself.

If your time is worth very much then you would be correct.

if you get some machinery, it works out well. i do all of my own printing, cutting, stuffing, mailing, and the brc... i like being able to create my own generic ad, as opposed to using the 3 that the mailhouse offers....

$100 laser printer, $1000 folder/inserter on ebay, and then cardstock and envelopes are about it..

when I was first testing it out, i was manually stuffing them, seeing what kind of response i would get. but after i saw my numbers get better, the folder/inserter is a must have item.

recently got a address printer to do the postnet/IMB barcodes. it'll knock a few cents off. have had months where I've sent out 10000 mailers before. when you look at doing everything for $300-$330, with my own personalized message, vs. $450 for a mailhouse to do it, then the $120-150 that you can save can add up. and the turn around time is very fast. when i put a phone number on it, i get calls the next day when mailing local... when i'm waiting for replies to come back, usually 3-4 days depending on how quickly they get the reply cards sorted

That is awesome....10,000 mailers for $ 330.00.
Even if it was same price as mailhouse, you are in complete control.

I don't think he is saying he did 10K mailers all for $330. That would equal out to 3.3 cents per mailer. Last I checked the post office was charging a bit more than 3.3 cents to mail something out.

yeah, $330 per thousand if you print your own message. some companies will give you free mailers, so you don't have the ink, cardstock, and envelope expense. And once you've got your names list, you can mail to it again and not have to buy the fresh list every time

if you get the preprinted mailers for free from the company (of course you are only pushing their product on the ad then), the cost gets down to 260/thousand, or 240/thousand with the barcode.

even though the response is lower with preprinted company material, the sales are much easier in my opinion, and you can mail out almost 2x as many as what the standard mail house charges.

Why would the sales be much easier with a company sponsored preprinted mailer versus a mailer you design?
