Do Imo's Get a List of the Clients You Write Under Them?

I've often thought of this. Does an imo you're under get the name, addresses and other info on clients you write? We're all independent agents contracted directly with the company and the imo over rides that. If he gets that info and I leave after lets say 3 years whats to prevent him from giving my book to an another agent to replace it? However unlikely i'd like to know the answer.I'm sure the company has thought of this also. If the imo leaves and had 30 agents and had the info on there whole book he could hurt the company.

Whether they get them automatically as a rule I don't know. But they certainly have access to them.

It depends, but usually they would have access.

Another reason why it's a good idea to work with IMOs that have a solid reputation like most of the recruiters on this forum.

Yes they have access to all of it. Yes they have and can go after your book. You also have to look at your upline's upline.

I personally had it done to me. I have also been the recipient of orphan cases. All the more reason to service what you sell, stay in contact with your book (or I will) and keep your own records.

Sure you may have a loving relationship with the IMO today how about tomorrow? Ever been through a divorce? What if management changes at your IMO? What if they sell the book?

Most of us are independent so we are responsible for our own businesses.

Not with most companies. Just reports with names face amounts and policy numbers, etc.

But a good reason to select your up line as carefully as they select you.

The IMO continues to receive the renewal overrides on the business you wrote while you were with them, so while there is incentive for the IMO to poach your book, it's really only because FYC is better than renewal commission.

If your IMO encourages you to rewrite your own clients every year, so that you make another first year commission, I'd look out. If not, I wouldn't trends to be too concerned.

Another thing to consider is they're only truly your clients if you stay connected with them. Birthday cards, newsletters, annual reviews, etc are all great ways to stay ahead of things like that. Even if someone tried to poach your business, if they're truly your client, you'll get a call before they do anything.

I don't think very many IMOs are very transparent as to who is even in the up line. It would be hard for an agent to check them out in that case.

It would take a true scumbag to screw over an agent like that. But I'm sure it happens.

So i wasn't being paronoid. Several people have said its happened. I can say this. If an imo did that and i found out i'd sue him plus if he's still licensed with the company he can kiss his renewals goodbye as he'd be terminated for cause. Scott as you well know a lot of imo's aren't direct with the company. Many most go under a national or regional fmo.

You would be surprised how easy it is to find out the upline of your IMO.

Home office types have very loose lips, especially when talking to the commission area. Just act like there is a problem with a payment and they tell you everything about who your upline is and even give you all the telephone numbers.

Have not found a company yet that is good on keeping their mouths shut.

As NEWBY said, Make Sure Your IMO practices full transparency.
