Does anyone have any experience with Email Marketing? (not marketing towards current clients)

Such as buying a list, and doing email blasts to generate new business. Is this effective? I have my doubts, but would like to hear opinions, and experiences

Honestly, technically anything can be effective w/ scale. Think of it as a "Press 1" of e-mails. Google algo on a cold blast will find your emails going into the spam folder instead of maybe a promotional folder or inbox.

However, you could do it more on a daily basis of X number of cold email.

I found this beginner guide on cold email marketing. There are some really smart strategies here that I think might increase open and conversion rate.

#3 in this article is paramount. If you're cold emailing, you should absolutely know more about your recipients than their name and email address. The message should be about them (think 2nd person writing).

That said, opt-in email marketing is superior in every way. 80%+ of emails will bounce in a cold blast and hinder the deliverability of all future emails sent from the account. Email providers can even blacklist you if they perceive your "blasts" as spam...and most of them are considered just that.

If you have a website, make sure there's an avenue for folks to subscribe to your mailing list front and center. It helps to incentivize subscriptions by offering some free content (like a Medicare guide, free quote, etc.)

I've found some loopholes, though. SurveyMonkey's email invitations seem to surpass a lot of the SMTP barriers. Plus, if the recipients respond to your survey, at worst you'll get some decent market research. I've been able to send thousands of email invitations at a time with a 30-40% bounce rate and I'll always include a "question" asking the responders to enter their demographic info.

I have done it, a long time ago, to a limited extent.

I was not successful, but I did not spend much time, effort, or money on it.

Also - its a LOT more complicated than buying an email list, typically - at least at scale.
To do it well, you need a different email domain and email provider. You need content. You need a service that sends out the second, third, and final emails automatically. Its also helpful to have this paired with a service that tells you if the email was opened and how many times. That site that was added, was pretty helpful.

Lastly what you are marketing for is also hugely important. Some insurance sectors are over marketed and some under marketed.
