I would like to start an independent brokerage focusing on disability insurance with a life policy here and there. This will be primarily a part time gig as I have a full time job (with a fairly flexible schedule) that will pay the bills.
I have passed my state license but I am wondering where to go from here. While I am familiar with various disability and life riders/policies (went through the process of buying a disability policy last year) - how can I best learn about the practical aspects (ie: from lead generation, marketing, communications, data gathering/submission, all the way down to completing the sale and getting paid etc)
I have a fairly good network I could mine for leads (eventually), however I would like to get all of my ducks in order and familiarize myself with the actual underwriting process for each insurer. I also anticipate focusing on online marketing to generate my own leads.
Would it be fairly impossible to find a part time job under a local brokerage o learn this process(There aren't very many disability brokers around). Would I be able to get this training under various IMOs or will some insurers have some training? Is it best to go through IMOs vs getting individually appointed (I'm not even sure if some of these companies give out individual appointments).
Thanks for any help/direction.
