Google Voice for Cold Calling?

Is anyone aware of any limits on google voice that would stop you from being able to use it for outbound telemarketing?

I use mine for outbound telemarketing and none I'm aware of. It uses my service provider to actually make the calls so I wouldn't think they'd care if it's 500 dials a day.

If you're talking about using them just for the local number, even if they shut the account down, grab another one. Their TOS just states you can't violate DNC laws.

There may be some TOS that excludes it, but I had great success using it with a local number to where I was targeting.

I found a script online that allowed me to link excel to Google voice, so I could simply click the number in the spreadsheet to call, instead of manually dialing.

That's the idea. In 4-6 weeks I'm going to be launching a new product and I'd like it to incorporate that type of functionality. The goal is to have a DNC scrubbing tool, CRM, and click to dial on it. It's pretty exciting stuff.

Per their TOS, "corporate" telemarketing is a violation. How do they define corporate? Likely over "X" dials per day...which we'll never know until we hit it.

So if you're a sole prop you can telemarket? I've seen a number of the little guys using it. The reality is that once it hits a point folks would want to be using a real dialer anyway, this would just be a way of scooting along the process for the folks that make 100 calls a day or so. Anyone making more calls than that would really be needing a different solution.

As stated, I've been using my number for outbound telemarketing but by not means would I consider it "corporate" level.

Google Voice

Prohibited Actions

In addition to (and/or as some examples of) the violations described in the Google Terms of Service, users may not:

  • Generate or facilitate unsolicited commercial telemarketing activities. Such activity includes, but is not limited to
    • placing calls in violation of laws prohibiting unsolicited marketing calls ("do-not-call laws")
    • imitating or impersonating another person or that person's phone number, or creating false accounts for the purpose of sending spam
    • data mining any web property (including Google) to find phone numbers
    • selling, exchanging or distributing to a third party the phone numbers of any person without such person's knowing and continued consent to such disclosure

It's going to be hard to pop up on that radar. Use a throwaway gmail address and account so if you do get banned it doesn't matter.

Not sure what you are going for but getting something like Magic Jack or Net Talk might do the trick. It's only like $30 a YEAR for unlimited calling. Magic Jack will even let you try it out for 30 days before buying it. You can pick a different area code then where you live to make it look like you are calling local.

What I'm going to be doing is integrating it with a CRM on a new product I'm offering. Looks like it will work :)
