Got an Offer from Physicians Mutual

Thank god I found this place. I've been interviewing with a bunch of agencies in the Austin TX area, and researching the company's online (primarily this site) has saved me a bunch of time.
I got an offer to work for Physicians Mutual and I'm thinking about accepting it this week. I met the DM, and spoke with a senior agent there. I know they provide you with leads, but I'm wondering how many leads they give an agent per week or month. Is it a set number per week? Am I to get 100% of my leads from them? I was told I could work out of my house (since I live 45 min away.)after I get started, any PM agents here do this?

Any past/current Physician mutual agents feel free to chime in with any advice.

It would be nice to know what the avg. income was like in your offices for the rookies. I'm coming from the financial advisory industry so I have a group I, 7, and 66.
Also I'm thinking about approaching the prospects I get from PM about financial planning too (I have a B/D who will hold my 7 and 66, and let me work part time). If anybody has every done this how did it work out?

If you use the search button and type in Physicians Mutual you will be able to read quite a few posts concerning this company. Some good, some bad, etc...Good Luck

IMO, the products are junk and so are the leads. The only thing worth a crap are the Medicare plans, but as I recall, they are pretty pricey. I know the guy who runs the Austin office and he's a nice guy, but damn, what a halfass operation.

I appointed with them, their promises went unfulfilled and I wish the whole deal had never happened.

I was a state manager for them and found out that my rates for their products was higher than through their direct sales department. People would see their ads and call us because we were a local agency only we were unable to offer them the same rate. Any leads we got from the home office in Omaha had been thoroughly worked through direct sales and were so cold you had to wear gloves to handle them. Maybe things have changed but I doubt it.

Interesting, I've haven't found that much dirt on them. How long did you work there? What promises are you talking about? Please expand on their half-assedness...Seems like there is negatives on every company out there (probably why we all want to be independent), so I'm just trying to go with the one that's least painful.
How bad you talking here, Bankers life and Casualty bad?

Also since they work with "right of refusal" ( I don't completely understand this yet), does this allow the agent freedom of choice to save the sell and go with a lower costing policy?
Was anybody successful there?

I know a good MGA in Austin; let me know if you would like to talk to him. I hope this helps...............

If you want to sell Medicare products, they are not competitive at all. Going captive is good to learn product knowledge but in the end you are MUCH better off going independent and going independent is not hard. I have been in the business almost 4 years and have been independent from day one. My advice is to specialize in one product. It is hard to try and do health insurance, Medicare products, life insurance and finanical planning. You will spend more time chasing your tail. I sell Medicare supplements and have vowed to learn everything I can about that market. Find one area and become an expert at it. I learn new ways to become a better Medicare specialist every single day. Good luck!

Sure, who's he with?....I'm just starting out though (I did not do any insurance in my previous job). So I'm gonna need training and a decent lead setup (kinda why I'm leaning towards PM).

I would not call what PM is going to give you a decent lead setup. You do not need them to get a lead setup.
