Help! Sep problem

Actually, there's a catch. If you look in the Federal PFFS Guide, it says that you have a 12 month trial in which you can return to your original Med Supp, however, if you didn't have a Med Supp to begin with you are stuck. Can't move until Open Enrollment (sorry for the bad news, but I learned this the hard way.) I have a copy of the guide that I will share if anyone wants it.

That is exactly how I understand it and have been taught. They have to go back to their original Med Sup plan and company. You hit the nail on the head (I mean head on the nail) with the fact that they can not go to a Med Sup GI if they first signed up with an MA and did not have a Med Sup. If in doubt you should sign them up with a Med Sup when they age in at IEP.

What is it with you guys? Don't you have copies of "Choosing a Medigap Policy" and the "Medicare & You 2008?"

Don't rely on what you were "told"... read the regulations.

That's the way I've always understood it too. They have to have an original med supp to go back to before they can go back. I've been wrong before though, especially with the MA plans and the CMS monkeys.

Of course it does state it plain and simple..."you have the right to buy... andy Medigap policy that is sold in your stae by any insurance campany.":skeptical:

I'm trying to do just that so I can PM HoosierDaddy. Can't get him to reply to my question about Royal Neighbors!

Okay, guys. Here it is: They are leaving the Medicare Advantage HEALTH PLAN to go back to the ORIGINAL MEDICARE HEALTH PLAN. From there, you buy a Medigap/Med Sup. Med Sups are SUPPLEMENTAL POLICIES, MAs are HEALTH PLANS.

When one elects to enter an MA plan turning 65, they don't have a Med Sup to go back to because they are exercising a first time option. Because of this, CMS provides a safety net for those people and if they are not satisfied with the MA plan, they can go back to the Original Medicare PLAN just as if they were turning 65 again. Now they have all the Med Sup options under GI just as if they never went with a MA. This is only true for those T-65s that never had a Med Sup before. That's why the trial right #4 is written the way it is.

Look at the difference with trial right #5. This is for those who HAD a Med Sup POLICY and then changed their minds and wanted to go back. These folks can get their ORIGINAL MED SUP POLICY back.

I understand that now...just wish they had clarified the "Note: Your rights may last for an extra 12 months under certain circumstances."
:swoon:
