High Court To Hear Challenge To Health Law Subsidies

About 5 months from now (March 23, 2015), this law will be 5 years old. I think America has figured out that it is not going to lower premiums.

Gross premiums no. I don't think it was designed to do that in the short term. Net premiums yes it has. It has saved a lot of lives and that was the main reason for its passage.

Medicare didn't lower healthcare costs it made them increase....big time. Here again how many lives have been saved by the program since inception?....countless...

Free food and shelter would save countless lives. Are you in favor of that also?

And how do you know Obamacrap has saved lives? Maybe transferred the cost of care from individuals to the taxpayers. We already have charities.

The issue here is you don't know the difference between health care and health insurance. It's ok. None of the socialists in Congress know the difference either.

I wrote 2 women with breast cancer that now have access to care. Several others with serious issues as well. The charities have rules not everybody can get access to care. Rick you can dog this law out on any front you want and I will probably back you on it but you can't say this law hasn't saved lives.

So let's talk about access to health care. What keys can you use? Cash ....that always works! Insurance....works almost as good as cash. Beggar thy neighbor.....always comes up short!

This country will see the biggest bifurcation in care this year.

Rich = PPO and actually survive with best doctors/hospitals next week.
Poor = HMO and an appointment next month with just graduated medical student

The price difference between the two this year is so large, it's gonna create a larger disparity of who has quality care, and who might get care.

I believe average premium according to CMS after subsidy was apx $82 in 2014... So clearly this lowered premiums! I mean someone else paid HIGHER RATES or TAXES but who cares that is their problem. LOL

That's always been the case. Reason being most people are stingy. It's just human nature. So charity is just not a reliable financing mechanism.

So, if 85% of the 6 million people who applied on-exchange got subsidies netting them an average premium of $82, that means 5.1 million people averaged $82. Great for them. However, 80 million others in the small group & non-subsidized IFP market saw their rates go up 20% to 400%. And large group saw it spike too, especially with having to enroll more employees. So, it didn't lower premiums when you view it as a national program rather than viewing it for 2 people with breast cancer or 85% of 6 million people.

It is because those that received rate increases were never paying their fair share in the first place... Bunch of Republicans complaining.

If you are under 9.5% it is affordable. Obama says so.

The program worked for 2 people with breast cancer who now can receive treatment where they prefer rather than at the state run facility. So I guess I've changed my mind.

2 people vs. 300+ million. I guess for some people that means success.

For those of us who actually pay taxes, it may not be the best solution.

Rick....this is one of the many differences between CA and TX. In CA there are county hospitals (not the right term, but you know what I mean) and everyone can get treatment for cancer or a scheduled, life-saving surgery when they do not have insurance.

In TX, if you live in a county without a county hospital you are out of luck.

Like the law or not, for people with illness or cancer, it HAS been a lifesaver.

Y is right, too. This is out of control. Its going to Medicaid, Medicaid Plus (Exchange/Subsidy) and the top 2%. The middle class is going to get left out.
