from enrollment, they send a letter but no number on it

Can they call Medicare and get number if they have letter?

don't have the time to look this up right now, but I am pretty sure @somarco has posted the steps to see your Medicare number on a screen print of a benefits letter obtained through a MySocialSecurity account.

(which does assume client has a computer and some computer skills.)

You can get your MBI and additional information by going online and downloading your "Benefit Verification Letter". You can get this on your Social Security web page at this link. You will need your SS login information.

Once you have logged in:

Click where it says "Your Benefit Verification Letter"

Then click on the adobe icon that says
"Your Benefit Verification Letter"

This will download a letter which shows your social security benefit, if you are receiving one. It will also show if you are enrolled in Medicare. And, if so, it will also give you your Medicare number as well as your Part A and Part B effective dates.

yes they can call medicare but some carriers like UHC will give you the MBI number if you have their SS number.I always ask for SS number after helping someone enroll in medicare telling them i will be able to speed the process up for them. Most clients are fine with giving me this

Caveat, not an agent.

Do you find that most of your clients have computers and the necessary computer skills to get a MySocialSecurity account set up without significant hand holding from you?

if helping them remotely the biggest problem is taking photo of id and selfie unless they have some technical savvy most can't follow my instructions.I tell some of them to do a walk in at local SS office which has been very fast recently.

Looks like the process is going to get even more complicated. Saw an email this morning that SS is going to start requiring the use of Login.gov or ID.me account to log in to your My Social Security account.

Timeframe? "soon"

Several insurance co's have online or call in feature to look up the MBI and A/B dates. Usually the SS# is required. Most clients are happy to not have to awkwardly look for the info. Then we enroll!
