Java Problems

Re: Java

Turns out, I happen to know someone who used to be a Java Product manager..... oh, that someone is me!

Unfortunately, I did not manage desktop Java, but I can still somewhat answer the question. Before I do that, I need to know how the $250 will be paid.

Java and Javaw are almost the same thing, just javaw doesn't have a console window associated with it. Do you care? Probably not, unless of course you start java programs from the command line or want to build new java programs.

In a nutshell, neither of these are what is causing your fan to run continously. To prove it, remove java from your computer. You'll find a few websites won't work correctly, but the fans still go full blast.

Personally, I would remove CA Security and install the free one. I had a similar problem once and this helped (not fixed) the problem. For the most part, I have found the security programs to be the worst security / usability threat going!

Re: Java

I once used avg free version for yrs then I noticed that my local computer store and my job was using eset virus protection. Its so light on my system that I can know keep working will its scanning, etc. So the CA security may be slowing you down. Also, the computers uninstall option leaves trace files and junk. I find its better to install ccleaner fyi.

Re: Java

I hope it isn't too late. We can try to find what is going on on you machine, as java.exe normally shouldn't be running. It is OK if it runs, as some program may run under the Java, but you need to find exact what program does it.

Re: Java

The only difference is that javaw.exe runs without the console window vs. the java.exe. If you don't want java, you can uninstall it. Java is probably not the problem, it is pretty tried and true, it is probably a program that was written using java that is your problem. Java is just a programming language.

Re: Java

Instead of blaming Java for all your PC ills, you should first determine if that is the problem by looking at task manager and find out which program is taking more CPU and RAM. Also make sure you regularly update you Anti-virus. Sometime some malware also can cause you PC to slow down. If you think CA is causing some problem then try disabling it for sometime and see if that improves the performance. If nothing helps then I would suggest formatting your H/D (after you have backed up your system). With Windows usually that is the only option most of the time.
