MAPD Election Period

If they lost Part B in December, didn't have it in January, and it went back into effect in February, technically they can't use ICEP today. That would have had to be used for the MA to be effective the same month as the Part B. ICEP ended the last day of the month prior to Part B going into effect (January 31). I haven't heard of any changes to that rule, so if there was a change, I'd love for someone to share a link.

However, see if other SEPs apply to them.

Nah, this changed 01/01/2025 - ICEP is good 60 days after Part B effective date.

That's good to know. I saw the other changes but must've missed that one. I'll need to find it written officially somewhere so I can update some agents.

I agree with Don that it was a dumb rule initially anyway. Glad it changed.

I had a similar situation - dealing with CMS and the enrollment team of the company I was told reinstatemt was the only option (I didn't try the ICEP)

They don't need the ICEP.

When someone loses part B, they can either have it reinstated and pay the back payments or reapply.

If they reapply, they use form 40b and their coverage starts the first of the following month. (Use to be on July 1st)

They all start back on OM and even get a new Medicare card with a new part B effective date. Once they get their new part B effective date they can reapply for either a supplement or a MA plan.

I had several that went for several years before reapplying. And I've written both supplements and MAs. So obviously the ICEP does not apply.

It's updated on the .gov website
