Missed enrolling in Part B

They need supplement insurance? means another premium to the premium for medicare?
It's cheaper to just keep working and going with ACA plan, no?

How much is the supplement insurance? will it cover all deductible of Medicare and copays and coinsurance?

You really need them to talk to an agent. You are giving them bad info and it sounds like you're about to mess them up even further.

Yes, a Medicare Supplement is needed in addition to the Medicare. You can get a policy that covers everything Medicare doesn't cover on Medicare approved expenses, or you can take a lesser plan that leaves you a little to pay, but has a lower premium. Also as LD pointed out, they should take Medicare Part D to cover Prescriptions.

I don't do ACA, but once they're eligible for Medicare, I don't believe they can keep the O'bamacare.

Pretty sure they can keep ACA but you can't get a subsidy. So in their situation each of them would cost like $800/month for a $3k deductible. It's imposible for her parents to be better off on an ACA plan. But man they are getting some bad info from the OP

It's probably the subsidy that I was thinking of. I agree that she needs to taok to an agent, I recommended that to her earlier in the thread.

Setting that question aside for a moment, There is also the issue of prescription drugs.

Have they gotten a prescription drug plan to give them some coverage for their medications?

Your answer to that will show an agent the full extent of the general advice you may need.
Not yet. Is this in addition to the supplemental insurance?

I've seen one that had t pay back the subsidy because they stayed on ACA because it was cheaper.

The one thing I hate most about this buis is explaining the drug penalty to someone who has not had drug cov due to the fact they were not taking much meds in the past

Medicare has four parts, Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D.

Here is a link for the 2018 Medicare and You handbook:
https://www.medicare.gov/pubs/pdf/10050-Medicare-and-You.pdf

The employer group health plans I had while I was working included Hospital Insurance (equivalent to Medicare Part A), Doctor insurance (oversimplified) (Equivalent to Medicare Part B) and prescription drug coverage (Equivalent to Medicare Part D).

(I am NOT an agent) I suspect that Medicare and a group health plan cover things a little differently, but that is a very general way to thing about it.)

Medicare expects a medicare beneficiary to share the cost of medical services. There is no limit on this. everytime one has a medical expense (which is covered by Medicare), the government pays part and the beneficiary pays part. The purpose of Medicare Supplement (or you will sometimes see it called Medigap) Insurance is to provide the Medicare Beneficiary some level of control over how much they will spend on their share of expenses.

(If the Medicare beneficiary needs or wants some type of service which Medicare does not cover, neither Medicare nor the supplement plan pays anything. The beneficiary has to cover the whole cost.)

Thanks for all your replies. I did not realize that everyone has to pay $134 as premium. I thought monthly premium was $0 if they had 40 credits and all of $160 was a penalty.

In order to best understand your situation, you need to reread the letter carefully and see what IT says.

In relation to all the comments recommending you talk to a health insurance agent, The drug plan is another issue you and they need advice on. If they are not there already, they are very close to the point where they are going to have a penalty added to their Part D PDP premium for a late enrollment.
