Ok,

I've been all over the stupid websites trying to figure out the best way to switch my license from IL to TN. I moved here to TN this past weekend.

IL says that when I get my new resident license in TN, to let them know within 30 days and they will change my IL license to a non-residential free of charge for the duration of my license (another year + for me)

However, I cannot for the life of me figure out what I need to do for TN to GET my license here. I thought I could do it online but I can't find a link anywhere.

Am I going to have to call the TN DOI tomorrow, or can someone point me in the right direction? I really thought it would be easier to just wait and get a resident license after I moved instead of getting a non-residential before and then switching it over, but I'm thinking that's not the case now....

Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated. Otherwise I guess I'll call tomorrow. (tried to today, but DUH....there was no answer! haha)

Not trying to sound like a smart*ss .. but have you been to the TN Dept of Insurance website?

Are you listed on the National Producer Database? If so, all you have to do is submit a TN application and a $50 app fee.

Hope this helps.

yes, I've been there, and to that page. I've got an application printed out, but 1) I was under the impression that it can be done online. 2) the app is a "uniform application" from the NAIC

Also, it doesn't say where to mail it. I'm assuming to the TN DOI? Believe me, I feel like an *** having to post this....

Ok, so it turns out I have to mail the application in since I'm moving into the state, no online application for me. Bummer. The license will come in the mail in 2 to 3 weeks, but I can call in a week and see if I have a license number in the meantime and they will give that to me over the phone if I do.

Looks like It'll be a month at least before I will be ready to make calls and get back to work. Since I can't get my new contracts until after I have my TN license number....

*sigh*

I know this doesn't help you but might help someone else. How would your situation be different had you before moving gotten a TN non-res license.

That is a good question?

Where in Tennessee did you move?

You sure about that? You just print out your license now. So once you are in the system, just go online and print it out. You should have it in a week. I know they didn't mail me my recent renewal license, I just got it online.

That is what we did when moving AR to MO, we got the MO non-res, moved, then got the MO res, changed our AR licenses to non-res.

Thats what I have always heard agents do. What the OP should have done is called long before moving to the state and knowing his options.

You get renewal licenses...What a waste of Paper. In my state my license is continuous unless cancelled. I don't even have to pay a renewal fee on it, just do my CE, guess my state figures they make enough money on Appointment Fees that they want to encourage people once they get the license to keep it and stay appointed with carriers.
